Simone Rocha has never held back on opulent detailing or exquisite craftsmanship in her ready-to-wear collections and so her couture debut was always going to be an opportunity for her to flex the fancy and then some. Her Wednesday afternoon show offered so much more than just a sorted of heightened elegance and a Parisian recalibration of her much-adored aesthetic, but designing under the Jean Paul Gaultier label brought new-for-Simone references and even a push towards the more overtly sexy and subversive.

Rocha is the latest designer to be invited by Jean Paul Gaultier to visit the archive and dream up a hybrid couture collection that brings together Gaultier's world with her own. She follows in the footsteps of Julien Dossena, Haider Ackermann, Olivier Rousteing, Glenn Martens and Chitose Abe who have taken on the stewardship.

So, without further ado, let's take a closer look at this collaboration for the ages.

The Cone Bra Made An Appearance

It was kind of inevitable that Rocha would riff on the iconic JPG cone bra. Her take came worn across a natty blazer paired with a pannier-style skirt. Business dress this is not.

There Were Plenty Of Red-Carpet Options

Rocha might be synonymous with dresses, but rarely do we see her do gowns. Couture week, however, delivered on this front with the show ending with a run of gargantuan frothy creations perfect for Emma Stone and the like to option for the Oscars.

The Front Row

Simone stans and JPG girlies unite! This fashion partnership continued onto the front row where loyalists from both brands pulled up to watch the spectacle unfurl. Kylie Jenner, who we could call a vintage Jean Paul Gaultier collector by now, was nestled in between the ever-chic Gossip Girl actor Kelly Rutherford and London's very own Amelia Dimoldenberg. A little along and Jean Paul Gaultier himself was sat front row as he watched on, a permanent grin on his face and a big kiss reserved for Simone as she took her finale bow to standing ovation.

The Couture Bride

Simone Rocha's label is a go-to for the fashion bride, with her pieces lending well for stylish nuptials. Her take on the couture bride was somewhat measured compared to where she could have taken it, opting to stick to a strapless lace gown with a bubble helm and a floor-covering, face-trailing veil worn by Kiki Willems to close out the show.

Sailor, Ahoy!

Jean Paul Gaultier's signature striped sailor shirt this time came rendered in ribbons for the ultimate use of satin lengths. Sorry curious ribbon-filled ice cubes trending online, this is the only way to fashion ribbons now.

And What About The Hats?

One of Rocha's most literal Jean Paul Gaultier references was the inclusion of the sailor hat. While they're often brilliant white, Rocha instead gave them her spin with a particularly fanciful one being rendered in soft peach with red embellished flowers.
