Ruben Östlund To Mentor Emerging Directors At France’s Les Arcs Film Fest Along Euro Industry Pros Katrin Pors, Gaia Furrer & Olivier Barbier

Swedish director Ruben Östlund has been announced as a guest of honor at the 15th edition of France’s Les Arcs Film Festival, in the role of its Talent Village Ambassador.

The two-time Cannes d’Or winner has a strong connection with the festival’s Alpine setting, having shot his breakthrough 2014 feature Force Majeure in and around the Les Arcs ski resort, and he has also attended the festival as its jury president in 2018.

Previously announced high-profile guests of this year’s edition of Les Arcs, running from December 16 to 23, include Iranian director Asghar Farhadi as president of the jury.

In his role of Talent Village Ambassador, Östlund will meet with eight emerging directors selected for the sixth edition of Les Arcs’ Talent Village and also give a masterclass.

The Talent Village takes place under the auspices of the Les Arcs Industry Village, running from December 16 to 19.

The program has been designed to encourage the transition from short to feature-length films. The participants attend a series of workshop and panels and then present their feature film projects at the Les Arcs’ Coproduction Village.

This year’s participants are the Netherlands’ Emma Branderhorst (Ma mère et moi, Spotless); Germany’s Alma Buddecke (Handbook For A Privileged European Woman, Hot Dog); France’s Josephine Darcy Hopkins (Sweet Tooth), Denmark’s Marlene Emilie Lyngstad (Norwegian Offspring), Greece’s Isabella Margara (Nothing Holier Than A Dolphin), Belgium’s Lisa Sallustio (The Pushpins), Lithuania’s Rinaldas Tomaševičius (Last Time) and Polish-Czech Republic filmmaker Anna Wowra (Stuck together).

The industry professionals leading the workshops will include Katrin Pors, producer at Danish production house Snowglobe; Olivier Barbier, Head of Acquisitions at France’s mk2 films, Gaia Furrer, artistic director of Venice parallel section Giornate Degli Autori, and music supervisor Laura Gentile, from sound production company Schmooze.

The 1500€ Talent Village Award will be awarded to one of the eight talents, selected by a jury comprising Susan Wendt, Managing Director at Danish sales company TrustNordisk, Roxanna Richters, producer at Germany’s Chromosom Films (Germany), and Italian director Giacomo Abbruzzese, whose film Disco Boy won he Berlinale’s Silver Bear in 2022.

The full festival line-up as well as the selection of projects due to be presented at the Les Arcs Co-Production Village and Works in Progress showcases will be announced in the coming weeks.
