The upcoming "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" will not be getting a sequel reports Empire.

Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy confirmed the news in an interview in the latest issue of Empire's print magazine, which was then later picked up by SlashFilm.

The news was also backed up by other team members, with visual effects supervisor John Knoll stating that "Rogue One" was always meant to be a standalone film, and Rogue One director Gareth Edwards adding that if there were a sequel to "Rogue One", "that sequel will be directed by George Lucas," a reference to that first Star Wars film.

SlashFilm also noted that when they spoke to Kennedy last year her thoughts were the same, stating that the Star Wars Story standalone movies "are not being designed to necessarily build new franchises" and will "very definitely have a beginning, middle, and end."

"Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" will be released December 16.
