Ring Will Pay You For Your Alien Video FootageRing.com

Paging all believers in alien lifeforms: Ring has announced the perfect challenge for you. Earlier today, Ring (of home security camera fame), announced they're holding a contest to find proof of extraterrestrial life forms. Participants are asked to submit unaltered video footage of an alien visitor filmed on an indoor or outdoor Ring device. And the grand prize is a whopping one million dollars. Yes, we're serious.

Ring isn't playing around, either. "Customers all over the world capture life's unexpected and delightful moments through their Ring Video Doorbells and Cameras," the company wrote in their blog post. "Now, you could be rewarded for catching an otherworldly sighting." In their list of official rules, the company states multiple times that any submissions sent in with artificial aids, makeup, props, digital effects, etc. will not be eligible for the grand prize (but there's still a chance to win something if you simply want to have some fun with it—more on that later). The submission window is from October 4th to November 3rd, just in time to complete this out-of-this-world mission for Halloween.

Ring encourages participants to submit footage showing anything from an otherworldly being landing on your driveway "and asking for directions or an unidentifiable lifeform exhibiting unusual and extraordinary behavior in your backyard." Once the window of time closes on November 3rd, Ring will appoint their Space and Extraterrestrial Expert to review all the footage and choose which videos meet their criteria of containing proof of alien life. The video with the best visibility and clarity of the subject will win the one million dollars. A winner will be chosen the week of November 6th and announced on or around November 20th—which means that, with a little otherworldly help, you could be a millionaire in just over a month! (Although, to be clear, the million bucks is paid out over the course of 20 years, $50,000 per annum.)

If you don't capture any actual footage of extraterrestrials, you could still stand to earn a reward. Five people will have the chance to win Ring's "Out of this World" prize, which "will be judged based on creativity, humor, engagement with a Ring device, and more (as defined in the Official Rules)." For these one-minute videos, you simply need to show "someone or something related to extraterrestrials." Ring goes on to explain that unlike the grand prize, which requires scientific evidence and no alterations, "an Entry using OPTION TWO can depict extraterrestrials in an unrealistic manner, and use artificial aids, such as costumes or accessories, manmade vehicles, makeup, props, computer graphics, digital effects and/or other artificial means." Each of these winners will be rewarded a single $500 Amazon gift card, and they're heavily encouraged to have as much fun with their submissions as possible. So if you've got an old ET costume in the garage, or are handy with facepaint, consider this a fun opportunity for quality family time that could result in an Amazon shopping day.

And if you are skeptical about life on Mars—or any other planet other than Earth—well, Ring might be, too. The Official Rules specify, "IF NO ENTRY CONTAINS SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE OF AN EXTRATERRESTRIAL AND/ OR IF THE SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE IS NOT CERTIFIED BY THE EXPERT" no Grand Prize will be awarded. On the other hand, if you keep an open mind and see something or someone on your Ring camera footage that you simply cannot explain, now's your moment to shine! Who knows, maybe your video could be the reason we start communicating with aliens?
