Ricky Martin Was ‘Fascinated’ by His Character’s Shoes in ‘Palm Royale’
Ricky Martin joined the rest of the cast for AppleTV+’s “Palm Royale” premiere on Thursday in Los Angeles. On the red carpet, Martin spoke about the series’ costume and shared his appreciation for the footwear worn by his character, Robert.
“What was fascinating for me is that whatever I used, most of them were original fabrics from the 60s and original T-shirts from the ’60s,” he told FN. “I was like, ‘Can I keep this?’ and they’re like, ‘Sorry, this is a gem, and this is part of someone’s collection. You cannot use this,’ he said, adding, “The sandals that I wore were originals from the ’60s, so for me, that was fascinating.”

“Palm Royale” is set in the 1960s, when strappy gladiator-style sandals were popular for men. His character, a waiter at the Palm Royale club, will be often seen in summer outfits in the show.
At the premiere, Martin wore all black with matching dress shoes that featured a fairly squared-off toe and a pronounced rubber tread.
The premiere also hosted Kristen Wiig, Allison Janney, Carol Burnett, Kaia Gerber and more. “Palm Royale” debuts on Apple TV+ on March 20. In the series, Wiig’s Maxine tries to gain entrance and acceptance to this club and, by extension, Palm Springs high society.
