This Republican Woman Just Stood Up for Hillary Clinton at the DNC

Director of Health Policy for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and self-proclaimed lifelong Republican Jennifer Pierotti Lim took center-stage at the Democratic National Convention on Thursday night to state that she would be voting left for the first time in her life.

Representing the group Republican Women for Hillary, which she co-founded, Lim argued that because Donald Trump is not representative of Republican - or American - values, in her opinion, Hillary Clinton is the only qualified candidate running.

"I've voted Republican my entire life," she said. "I believe in the bedrock values of the Republican Party: liberty, equality, and the idea that there are individual rights that cannot be taken away. These are values to be proud of. And because the Republican party has abandoned those values this year, this Republican is voting for Hillary Clinton."

In particular, Lim called out Trump for his extensive history of sexist remarks against women, and how important it is to have a president who sees women for more than their looks.

"In Donald Trump's America, it doesn't matter that I'm an accomplished attorney and a policy expert, it just matters how attractive I am on a scale of one to ten," she said. "Trump's loathsome comments about women and our appearances are too many to list and too crass to repeat. But they are too important to ignore."

She then called for Republicans and Independents to make sure to get out and vote in November, and shut down the argument that she was voting for Clinton entirely because of her gender.

"There are some who will say I'm supporting Hillary Clinton because she's a woman," she said. "People who say that dismiss my voice and Hillary's long record of public service."

"There are some who I know are contemplating staying home this November," she continued. "Your voice can help define the next chapter of American values, American policy, and American leadership around the world – for better, or for worse."
