Earlier this year, Regis Philbin revealed that he hasn't talked to his former Live! cohost, Kelly Ripa, since he left the show in 2011. But what might be even more surprising is that the pair didn't speak much on set either, according to Kelly.

In a new interview with the New York Times, Kelly says Regis had a mandate that there was to be no talking off-camera. His reasoning wasn't entirely cold-hearted, though: Apparently he wanted to save the witty banter for taping. "He had almost a superstition about it. You save it for the show," Kelly told the New York Times. "I'd be like, 'Good morning,' and he'd say, 'Save it for the air!'"

Even though Kelly gave a tear-filled goodbye to her co-host of 10 years when Regis, now 86, left Live! six years ago, he hinted that their relationship was rocky during an interview with Larry King Now in February. "She got very offended when I left. She thought I was leaving because of her," Regis said. "I was leaving because I was getting older and it wasn't right for me anymore."

But today, Kelly seems to be on much better terms with her new co-host Ryan Seacrest - especially compared to her strained relationships with Regis and former cohost Michael Strahan. According to the New York Times, the two are good friends and will text each other and hang out even when they're not filming. Kelly also praised Ryan as "the future of the franchise" and "the future of ABC." Perhaps the third cohost is the charm?
