‘Doctor Who’, ‘Grantchester’ Add Cast; BAFTA Awards Calendar Set – Global Briefs

Actor, comedian and writer Reece Shearsmith has been set as a guest star in a

special episode of the upcoming season of Doctor Who. The League Of Gentlemen star previously played Patrick Troughton in the Doctor Who film An Adventure In Space And Time. He’ll appear in what’s deemed “a very scary episode” penned by Mark Gatiss, who says the story has “been brewing in the dark recesses of my mind for a while now.” Shearsmith, who’s also appeared in features Shaun Of The Dead and A Field In England, along with the upcoming High-Rise, joins other guest stars across the series including Michelle Gomez, Maisie Williams, Rufus Hound, Ingrid Oliver and Rebecca Front. Doctor Who returns for Season 9 on September 19.

BAFTA has set the full calendar for its 2016 film awards. As previously announced, the ceremony will take place on February 14 in London’s Covent Garden. Here are other key dates:

sleuthing vicar drama that averaged 6.6M viewers and a 24 share last year. Morrissey will play Harding Redmond, a resident of Grantchester and grieving father whose teenage daughter Abigail (Grace Holley) is found dead amid suspicious circumstances. Heartbroken and desperate to get to the bottom of what happened to Abigail, Harding accuses Sidney (Norton) of having an inappropriate relationship with her. Sidney is determined to prove his innocence, but will Harding’s accusations change the way the villagers feel about him? Other new cast include Claudie Blakley (Lark Rise To Candleford, The Driver), Nigel Planer (The Young Ones, Episodes), Andrew Knott (Black Work, The Driver), Nicky Henson (Downton Abbey, Vera Drake) and Oliver Dimsdale (Harley Street, He Knew He Was Right). Tessa Peake-Jones, Morven Christie, Kacey Ainsworth and Al Weaver are returning.

I Ricordi Del Fiume will screen Out of Competition. Horizons has been slated to open with Rodrigo Pla’s Un Monstruo De Mil Cabezas, which was announced last week. Tseden’s film was shot in Tibet and centers on a young shepherd whose greatest ambition is to serve the people. But his arrival in the city and his encounter with a girl soon will shatter all his illusions. I Ricordi is a documentary about the platz, the large shanty town where more than a thousand people of different nationalities live on the banks of the Stura River in Turin. Venice runs September 2-12.

Turner Broadcasting has appointed Vanessa Brookman to the newly created role of VP Content & Creative, UK and Northern Europe. Her primary focus will be to define and execute content strategy for the company’s kids and general entertainment portfolio across the UK, Nordic and Baltic countries. She joins Turner from Viacom International Media Networks, where she was VP Programming for MTV and Channel 5. Through her tenure at VIMN, MTV grew its average audience share by 100% in five years. Prior to joining MTV, she was Head of Fiction and Children’s at BBC Vision.
