Raymond Wong wants HK government to help filmmakers
1 Apr – Pegasus Motion Pictures' Raymond Wong recently urged the Hong Kong government to assist filmmakers as he acknowledged the dire situation faced by the film industry following the previous protests and subsequent situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
As reported on Mingpao, the film producer, who spoke to the media about the government's order of shutting down cinemas for 14-days to help flatten the curve of the pandemic, stated that he is in support of the action though stressed the need for financial assistance.
"I feel the government should help the industry, be it the cinemas, films, music, or even dramas, because everybody has stopped working because of this," he added.
He revealed that the cinema business has dropped over 60 percent since February, as a lot of people didn't dare going to the movies because of the threat of coronavirus.
"We can only take full safety measures - disinfecting and cleaning the premise, taking viewers' temperatures, and giving them masks to make their viewing feel a lot safer," he added.
In his previous statement, Hong Kong's Federation of Film Workers and Entertainers Association president Tin Kai Man stated that he is worried about the fate of film workers, as many of them had to relegate to doing odd jobs in order to make money due to the lack of filming opportunities for the past few months.
