CBS Dominates in Early Ratings With Dem Debate Topping 13 Million Viewers
CBS dominated Tuesday night with its Democratic debate, drawing 13 million viewers in Nielsen’s earliest-available ratings.
Due to the nature of live TV programming, these CBS numbers are subject to adjustment. We’ll get the west coast data — and thus final figures — later on Wednesday.
NBC was second in primetime with “The Voice” and “This Is Us.”

CBS was first in ratings with a 1.7 rating/9 share in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic and in total viewers with an average of 10.5 million, according to preliminary numbers. The Dem Debate from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. posted a 2.2 rating and 13 million viewers. The CBS News analysis at 10 put up a 0.9/5 and 5.5 million viewers.
Again, we’ll see if those stats rise in a few hours and where this debate ultimately ranks, audience-wise.
NBC was second in ratings with a 1.2/6 and in viewers with 6.9 million. “The Voice” at 8 drew a 1.4/7 and 8.5 million viewers. “This Is Us” at 9 landed a 1.4/6 and 7.1 million viewers. “New Amsterdam” at 10 received a 0.7/4 and 5.2 million viewers.
ABC and Fox tied for third in ratings, both with a 0.6/3. ABC was third in total viewers with 3 million, Fox was fourth with 2.1 million.
For ABC, “The Conners” at 8 had a 0.9/5 and 5.1 million viewers. At 8:30, “Bless This Mess” got a 0.6/3 and 3.1 million viewers. “Mixed-ish” at 9 received a 0.5/2 and 2.3 million viewers. “Black-ish” at 9:30 matched that 0.5/2, but slipped to 2.2 million viewers. “For Life” at 10 closed primetime with a 0.6/3 and 2.5 million viewers.
For Fox, a first episode of “Gordon Ramsay’s 24 Hours to Hell and Back” at 8 had a 0.6/3 and 2.1 million viewers. A second episode at 9 had the same rating/share, but shed about 100,000 viewers.

Univision was fifth in ratings with a 0.5/2 and in viewers with 1.6 million.
Telemundo was sixth in ratings with a 0.4/2 and in viewers with 1.1 million.
The CW was seventh in ratings with a 0.3/1 and in viewers with 966,000. “The Flash” at 8 had a 0.4/2 and 1.2 million viewers. At 9, “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow” got a 0.2/1 and 753,000 viewers.
