Rashid Sibir believes in temporary ban against problematic artistes

21 Mar - Filmmaker Rashid Sibir believes that Malaysia should bring back the temporary ban towards artistes with attitude and moral problems.

The director, who is known for works like "Laila Isabella" and "Tanah Kubur", shared that artistes are public figures who have thousands and millions of fans who would look up to them.

"Therefore, an artiste needs to have a clean image and positive attitude. But if you yourself is immoral, how can you set a good example for society?" he asked.

Rashid reminded that the national TV station RTM used to ban artistes with problematic behaviour in the '90s, even to the extent of banning rockers with long hair.

"In my opinion, these bans should be reimplemented so that the new generation of artistes will be more afraid of doing bad things. Artistes shouldn't only have a good image, but behaviour too. If they are found guilty, if you ask me, they should be punished," he said.

He also added that artistes hired in projects need to be researched and evaluated.

"In my opinion, problematic artistes should be banned for at least six months to a year. The ministry has to release a guideline in an effort to prevent such prevalent misbehaviour," he added.

It is noted that several producers have echoed similar sentiments, including David Teo and A. Aida.
