If the San Ysidro Ranch sounded familiar to you when the news came out about Chris Pratt and Katherine Schwarzenegger's recent wedding there, it's not surprising-the property has one of the most celebrity-filled histories in California. Multiple modern-day celebs have been married at the Montecito retreat, including pop star Jessica Simpson to NFL'er Eric Johnson, model Lily Aldridge to Kings of Leon's Caleb Followill, and actress Gwyneth Paltrow to Coldplay's Chris Martin (OK, that one was really more of a "conscious coupling," LOL).

But the ranch's storied history goes so much deeper: Sir Laurence Olivier and Vivien Leigh exchanged vows there in 1940. Audrey Hepburn, Lucille Ball, Bing Crosby, and Groucho Marx were all frequent guests. No less American royalty than John and Jackie Kennedy themselves spent part of their honeymoon there in 1953. (In addition to her ties to Avengers and Terminators, Katherine Schwarzenegger happens to be JFK's great niece, NBD.) And yet just last year, San Ysidro Ranch was nearly destroyed.

In January of 2018, the ranch was hit hard by the massive wildfire known as the Thomas fire, and especially by the subsequent mudslides. Besides smoke damage from the fire itself, the mudslides uprooted trees and dislodged boulders that took out entire cottages on the property, and its underground wine cellar (Montecito is very near to Santa Barbara's wine country) was completely filled with mud.

Following this tragedy, the ranch spent 15 months remodeling, rebuilding the three destroyed cottages from scratch-and giving each its own brand-new plunge pool for good measure. The wine cellar has been restored (and restocked, whew!), 11 other cottages have been renovated with new floors and bathrooms, and the entire property has been upgraded and refreshed with new furniture and decor throughout. It only just reopened in April, so thank your lucky stars that this beautiful and historic hideaway has lived to see another day-and, no doubt, another star-filled wedding.
