Rakhi, an 11-year old girl, and her younger brother, 5-year old Raghav, returned from their field in Devkundai hamlet at twilight when a leopard pounced on them. She immediately wrapped her arms over Raghav's torso, shielding him from the leopard attacks. The ferocious animal continued to attack her from behind, but she never left her brother's side. Finally, after her mother started yelling, the leopard eventually fled.

Rakhi sustained significant head and limb injuries as a result of the event. She was evacuated to a hospital in Kotdwar and then transferred to a Delhi medical facility for further treatment. Given her brave act, the state administration has chosen to submit her name to the national government for consideration for a bravery award, which will be presented later this year.

And, these brothers and sisters have proven themselves by doing the genuine 'Raksha’ in the community.
