Queen Camilla's ex-husband, Andrew Parker Bowles, has new royal-related duties. Last week, he formally represented the Queen Consort at a funeral for John Bowes-Lyon. Bowes-Lyon was a second cousin of Queen Elizabeth and a cousin of Parker Bowles. According to the Daily Mail, his friends say this could be "the first engagement of many."

The Court Circular, the record of royal engagements, shared on October 18: "The King was represented by the Earl of Rosslyn at the Funeral of Mr John Bowes-Lyon which was held at the Oratory, Brompton Road, London SW7, this afternoon. The Queen Consort was represented by Brigadier Andrew Parker Bowles."

This actually is not the first time Andrew Parker Bowles has represented the royals at a funeral; however, this is the first time he has stepped in for Queen Camilla. In the past, he has represented Princess Anne on at least five different occasions, according to the Court Circular.

Parker Bowles has had a long friendship with Princess Anne; there were even rumors they had a romantic entanglement. "Even when their romance eventually wound down, they remained lifelong friends," writes King Charles biographer Sally Bedell Smith. Indeed, the two have been photographed together numerous times over the years, and he is the godfather of Anne's daughter, Zara Tindall.

Meanwhile, Camilla and Andrew have also remained friends over the years. They were married in 1973, and have two children together, Laura Lopes and Tom Parker Bowles. They divorced in 1995, and Camilla went on to marry then-Prince Charles in 2005, and Andrew married Rosemary Pitman in 1996. He was married to Rosemary until her death in 2010.
