For the first time since marrying into the royal family, the Duchess of Cambridge will miss the St Patrick’s Day parade today – but she has a good excuse. The 34-year-old is staying home with her children at their Norfolk home.

It’s the first time Kate has skipped the celebrations in five years, but not surprising that she’s chosen to stay home with her kids – who she’ll be saying goodbye to in a couple of weeks when she jets off on her royal tour of India and Bhutan.

The Duchess has been a regular fixture at the celebrations over the last five years and handed out sprigs of shamrocks to the Irish Guards in Aldershot, which we’re sure they’ll miss this year. But it’s not just her role at the proceedings that’s always hit headlines – her colour appropriate outfits have always made a splash.

In 2012, the Duchess wore an Emilia Wickstead green coat dress that instantly landed on every woman’s wish-list.

She teamed the jacket with a brown belt that cinched in her tiny waist, a matching felt hat and Jimmy Choo shoes.

The following year, in 2013, Kate was pregnant with Prince George.

She wore another Emilia Wickstead coat, over a black high neck top, and completed the look with a black hat and Emmy London pumps.

The Queen Mother’s gold shamrock brooch completed the look.

In 2014, the Duchess looked bronzed from her recent holiday with Wills in the Maldives.

She covered up in a Hobbs coat, wore her sun-kissed locks loose in soft waves and accessorised with a green, felt Gina Foster hat.

Again, Kate pinned on the Queen Mother’s brooch for the occasion.

Last year, Kate was heavily pregnant with Princess Charlotte.

Wearing her hair up in a neat chignon, she donned a brown Lock & Co hat (the same exact style she wore in 2012), a brown Catherine Walker coat and matching shoes by Emmy London.
