The Yong Tou Foo Set (Clear Soup) is a classic option that you can’t go wrong with. For S$5.80, you’ll get to pick either 7 ingredients or 6 ingredients plus noodles, ensuring you enjoy a satisfying, nutritious meal at an affordable price.. If 7 ingredients aren’t sufficient for you, add on extra ingredients for S$0.80 each.

If you feel that clear soup is too mild for your liking, do not worry, for you can also get your yong tou foo set with Laksa Gravy for S$6.80. I love how aromatic the gravy is, with the fragrance of coconut milk shining through. It also has an adequate amount of spice that isn’t too overpowering, yet noticeable enough to pack a small punch.

With the array of ingredients available, ranging from silky tofu to crunchy peppers filled with fish paste, you could dine at D&J Niang Tou Fu over and over without getting bored!

While bak chor mee stalls can be found all over the country, Cuo Cuo You Yu proves itself to be more than just any regular noodle stall. You’ll find this seemingly unassuming stall in a corner of Kopitiam @ Paya Lebar Quarter.

Every single ingredient used to make the Teochew-style bak chor mee serves a specific purpose, giving the dish an exceptional flavour. Aside from bak chor mee, you can expect to enjoy other soupy dishes like fishball noodles, meatball noodles and fish soup.

What I love about the dry version of the Signature Bak Chor Mee (S$6.50) is the fact that is comes with a bowl of dry noodles paired with a hearty bowl of soup, allowing you to enjoy both the sauciness of the dry noodles and the robust soup instead of having to pick just one.

The rich broth is filled with pork slices, pork liver, sole-fish meatballs and minced meat, and has a gorgeous aroma throughout. The soup isn’t too salty and bursts with flavour. I can’t get enough of the dry noodles too, which are topped with ikan bilis, fried lard and fried shallots, making them extra crunchy and flavourful.

Satisfy your cravings for Japanese food at Kopitiam @ Hougang One when you dine at the aptly named Japanese Cuisine. The stall was founded by John Ong and Li Xuee; John previously worked at Sobasei, a renowned Japanese restaurant along Orchard Road, and was the pioneer of the bento concept. He was also the one who introduced healthier choice dishes to customers, allowing for more wholesome dining options.

With over 30+ outlets across the country, Japanese Cuisine was recognised and awarded with the Singapore Brand Award in 2015 and the “Most Franchisable” award in 2016.

Don & Oyster Bar is one of the most unique stalls you’ll find at a Kopitiam. Located within Kopitiam Food Hall @ Jem, Don & Oyster Bar serves freshly shucked oysters and Japanese don bowls. On top of that, they also have beer, which was what led to the creation of the stall in the first place.

Qiu Lian Ban Mian is a stall with a rich history. Its legacy began in 1988, when an enterprising housewife, Ong Qiu Lian, created her own unique soup and chilli recipe, making bowls of ban mee and mee hoon kuay with a small hand-held noodle maker. She opened her very first stall within an industrial canteen in the East, where her freshly-made noodles quickly attracted long queues from hungry customers.

Today, Qiu Lian Ban Mian is one of Singapore’s most well-known ban mian stalls, and for good reason. You can find them in Kopitiam @ Plaza Singapura, where you can order bowls of their famous noodles to try for yourself.

Each bowl of Handmade Ban Mian (S$7) is made with handmade noodles, a savoury broth, an egg, meat balls, vegetables and a sprinkle of crunchy ikan bilis. Other handmade noodle options include You Mian (S$7) and Mee Hoon Kueh (S$7).
