Princess Eugenie, the Queen’s granddaughter is celebrating her 30th birthday.

The royal will have had to postpone any big celebration plans as the nation faces increased social distancing measures amid the coronavirus outbreak.

The Royal Family shared a picture of Eugenie at Maundy Service with the Queen last year, as they wished her a happy birthday.

And her mother Sarah Ferguson shared a picture of her taken on her wedding day, “just for her mum”, saying “and my little girl is 30 today and Happy Birthday my little magic dust”

Eugenie Victoria Helena, who is the second daughter of Prince Andrew, Duke of York, and Sarah Ferguson, was born at Portland Hospital in London on 23 March, 1990.

Andrew and Sarah didn’t announce the name of their newborn for a week, keeping the nation guessing.

She was the first royal to have a public christening, and was sixth in line to the throne at the time, but now sits at 10th, with the arrival of her cousin Prince William’s three children, as well as Prince Harry’s son Archie.

Eugenie was baptised during morning service at St Mary Magdalene Church, Sandringham in the same year she was born.

Two years after she arrived, her parents announced their separation, eventually divorcing in 1996. But they have remained close, having joint custody of Eugenie and her older sister Beatrice.

Eugenie underwent a successful operation to straighten her spine when she was 12 years old, having been born with scoliosis.

She is now patron of the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, and her wedding dress was specifically designed with a low back to show her surgery scar.

Eugenie explained: “I believe scars tell a story about your past and your future and it’s a way of getting rid of a taboo.”

She was widely praised for the decision to show her scar on her wedding day. She married Jack Brooksbank, a tequila brand ambassador, in 2018, in St George’s Chapel, Windsor.

Jack and Eugenie followed in her cousin Harry’s footsteps with a carriage ride through the city afterwards, though theirs was a shorter route than the Prince and Meghan Markle’s.

Eugenie’s teen years were mostly spent out of the limelight. She went to Coworth Park School and was said to be considerate, caring and cheeky.

She was apparently reprimanded by her boarding school, when aged 18, she was part of a group caught running around naked.

It was reported that a senior staff member was woken by playful shrieks and found about a dozen young women dancing around without any clothes in the college grounds.

After school, she went to Newcastle University and achieved a 2:1 in a combined degree of English, history of art and politics. She lived in £96-a-week halls in her first year before living in a student house.

Art is a passion for her, and she says Jean-Michel Basquiat, the pioneering prodigy of the 1980s New York art scene, is one of her heroes.

She delights fans with her posts on Instagram, which are a mixture of her campaign work and throwbacks.

She shared a post on Mother’s Day celebrating her own mother and sending her thoughts to those who were not able to be with their parents amid the coronavirus outbreak.

Eugenie is still close with her sister Beatrice and her parents. She took her sister’s engagement photos which were released after Beatrice announced she would marry Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi.

Of her parents, Mumsy and Papa, she has said: “They are the best divorced couple I know. They just always went out of their way to make us feel loved and secure.”

She calls her sister Bea or Beabea, and has previously said of her: “Like all sisters we have silly arguments about unimportant stuff, but we do love each other to death.”

She listed chips, Diet Coke and cashew nuts as her indulgences, and vodka with soda and lime as her favourite tipple.

Her romance with Stowe-educated Mr Brooksbank, a brand manager for George Clooney’s tequila firm, began after they fell in love at first sight on a ski trip.

The Yorks have had a difficult year, with Prince Andrew stepping back from his royal duties after a disastrous interview on BBC Newsnight about his friendship with Jeffrey Epstein.

And Eugenie’s older sister Beatrice is also having to rethink her wedding plans, having cancelled her reception because of the coronavirus advice from the government around large gatherings.

As the Church of England has now also advised just five people should be at the ceremony, her whole day may be in disarray.
