Princess Anne made a surprise trip to New York in the United States this week.

While in the USA, the Princess Royal was guest of honour at a gala event for the English Speaking Union at the Cosmopolitan Club, and also made time to visit a local museum.

Princess Anne took the ferry to Staten Island, one of the boroughs of New York City, and visited the National Lighthouse Museum while there.

A new endeavour called the Illuminate Future Generations campaign by the museum is being supported by Princess Anne as its Honorary Chairman. According to the National Lighthouse Museum’s website, “$20 million build-out of the expanded Museum space is the principal component of the campaign endeavor.”

It will also help the museum continue its mission to, “support historical, educational, cultural, recreational, and other related activities at the site, while maintaining the navigational significance and maritime heritage of lighthouses throughout the world.”

A photograph of Princess Anne’s visit was shared to the official Royal Family Instagram page which showed her being presented with a bouquet of flowers from a young girl during her visit.

In a caption, the post explained that Princess Anne was, “Honorary Chairman for the Campaign for Illuminating Future Generations, visiting the @NationalLighthouseMuseum on Staten Island, New York,” before going on to detail further recent activities of Royal Family members.

Elsewhere this week, the Prince and Princess of Wales were in Northern Ireland visiting a number of organisations and businesses, as well as greeting local people.
