Prince William Steps Out Amid Kate Middleton Photo Controversy
In honor of UK Mother's Day yesterday, Kensington Palace released an image of Kate Middleton and her three children—Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis—smiling, along with a message from Kate, thanking the public for their well wishes as she recovers from abdominal surgery. Seems straightforward, right? It was anything but. Soon after the photograph was released, photo agencies recalled it, alleging it had been manipulated and altered.
This morning, Kensington Palace shared an apology over the photo editing from Kate Middleton, who wrote, "Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing. I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused. I hope everyone celebrating had a very happy Mother's Day." The Palace has not shared the original image.
Amid the drama surrounding the photograph of the Princess of Wales, Prince William has stepped out to attend Commonwealth Day Service. The service is annually held at Westminster Abbey in London, and he joined Queen Camilla, Princess Anne, and other senior working royals for the event. (King Charles, who stepped back from public duties as he receives treatment for cancer, was absent, but pre-recorded a message that will be broadcast during the service.) As the royals entered the Abbey, Eternal Taal, an all-women group of Indian Dhol drummers, performed at the Great West Door.
Keeping with his policy of not commenting on Kate's health, William did not say anything about her or the photograph released yesterday. Last week, he seemingly responded to the online speculation surrounding his wife, with a spokesman for the Prince of Wales saying "his focus is on his work and not on social media."
