Is it just us or has the royal family has been more open with the public as of late? Despite this newfound candor, it's safe to say that none of us expected Prince William to drop a bombshell that would leave us all clutching our pearls.

During an appearance on the BBC Radio 1 show Going Home, the Duke of Cambridge was asked about his favorite emoji. His answer? An aubergine, a.k.a. the British way of saying eggplant. And if you know anything about eggplant emojis, you know that it's hardly used for excitedly sharing your dinner plans or celebrating your latest vegetable harvest.

“Is this a clean thing or is this a family one? I’ve been told not to say the aubergine, so I’ve got to pick something else,” he said during the TV appearance on Tuesday, the New York Post reported.

To appease listeners' innocent ears, he later offered a more PG version of what his favorite emoji is.

“It would have been the aubergine, but I’m saying now—because I’ve got to be all grown up—it’s the one where the eyes go up and down and the mouth’s out,” he said. "What’s that one? The slightly crazy one.”

Prince William's emoji bombshell has some people on social media wondering what a quick glimpse at his texts might uncover.

"Why is Prince William’s most-used emoji the eggplant? To whomst is he texting??" one user on X (formerly Twitter) asked.

We have to admit that we're awfully curious as well. Maybe he's just texting about eggplant recipes?
