Prince Harry will be mourning the death of his beloved grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, alongside his wife, Meghan Markle, and royal family members next Monday.

The Duke's of Sussex's attire for the upcoming celebration of life has become a topic of discussion after BAZAAR learned he was not given permission to wear his military uniform, like the working royals in the family.

Instead, a representative for Harry confirmed, the duke will partake in the mourning ceremonies wearing a mourning suit.

Today, the rep for the Sussexes told Harper's BAZAAR royal contributor Omid Scobie, "Prince Harry, The Duke of Sussex will wear a morning suit throughout events honouring his grandmother. His decade of military service is not determined by the uniform he wears, and we respectfully ask that focus remain on the life and legacy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II."

BAZAAR previously reported that all working royals must wear military uniforms to the ceremonies being held for the queen during the period of mourning proclaimed by King Charles III. And even as a non-working royal, Prince Andrew, Duke of York, was granted permission to wear the uniform as a mark of respect for the queen at the final vigil for her.

But Harry, who stepped down as a senior royal in 2020 to move to California and start a new life with wife Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, was not granted the same permission. The decision came as a surprise to some, seeing as Harry served in the British Army for 10 years and still referred to the queen as his commander in chief in his touching tribute to her yesterday.

"Granny, while this final parting brings us great sadness, I am forever grateful for all of our first meetings—from my earliest childhood memories with you, to meeting you for the first time as my Commander-in-Chief, to the first moment you met my darling wife and hugged your beloved great-grandchildren," Harry wrote. "I cherish these times shared with you, and the many other special moments in between. You are already sorely missed, not just by us, but by the world over. And as it comes to first meetings, we now honour my father in his new role as King Charles III."

Despite it all, Harry seems to agree with the decision made per royal protocol.

The funeral service for Queen Elizabeth II will be held next Monday, September 19, at 11 a.m. U.K. time in Westminster Abbey.
