PrimaLoft President and CEO Anne Cavassa on Why Women Need to Dream Big in the Workforce: Women Who Rock

Since PrimaLoft president and chief executive officer Anne Cavassa got her start, the only constant within the footwear and fashion industry has been change. That is especially true when it comes to how women are viewed in the workforce.

“There is a greater understanding of the unique benefits of female leadership today versus a decade ago,” Cavassa said. “Women were encouraged to ‘take one for the team,’ hang with the crowd and don’t stand out too much. Do good work and don’t worry about who gets the credit. Meanwhile, male counterparts were encouraged to ‘lead’ and represent the team, often taking credit for the larger group’s work.”

She continued, “Not surprisingly, male colleagues were often viewed as more confident and capable of taking on the next role, while women were being passed by.”

To ensure this remains a thing of the past, Cavassa believes the answer lies in mentorship.

“Rather than coaching how to fit in, I believe good mentorship encourages women to amplify their strengths, be confident in their voice and give and take credit where credit is due,” she said. “Not only will you be noticed for your good work, but you will be noticed for your partnership as well.”

Looking ahead, Cavassa believes encouraging women to dream big will ensure future generations are successful.

“Repeatedly, younger women have shared how inspiring and motivating it is to see female leadership at the very top,” Cavassa said. “I don’t take for granted that female representation in a male-dominated industry matters. There is a level of responsibility that comes with this, and I push myself and encourage female leaders to lean into that role with both pride and humility.”
