Over the years, Leonardo DiCaprio has been very vocal about climate change. Last year he donated $15 million to environmental organizations, and then famously raised awareness about “the urgent threat facing our entire species” during his Oscar acceptance speech.

And now he’s meeting with President Obama and climate scientist Dr. Katharine Hayhoe on October 3rd at the White House South by South Lawn event to talk about the big issues facing our planet.

And by big issues, we mean exactly that. EW notes that the conversation will revolve around “the importance of protecting the one planet we’ve got for future generations.” So… you know, the future of mankind and everything.

Leo’s National Geographic documentary Before the Flood will also be screened at the event. It tackles the ways in which society can help our ecosystems and endangered species from declining even further.

It’s great to see a super public figure like Leo get behind a worthy cause like this. As a UN Ambassador of Peace he’s certainly very passionate and committed to the environment, as we ALL should be — regardless of our title.

We look forward to hearing how the conversation goes down, and we’ll continue to support Leo in his quest for the environment — not only for us, but for future generations.
