Just yesterday we revealed that David Beckham had been criticised online for posting a photo of him kissing seven-year-old daughter Harper on the lips.

And now Piers Morgan has weighed in on the debate about whether or not parents should kiss their children on the lips.

In the Instagram post, David, 43, sweetly pecks Harper on the lips on an ice skating rink.

Though some weren’t fans of the loving gesture, other fans jumped to the former footballer’s defence.

But not ‘Good Morning Britain’ presenter, Piers Morgan, who revealed that he’s firmly in the not-to-kiss camp, labelling the kiss ‘weird.’

“If the kid’s seven you don’t kiss them on the lips,” he said on the programme today. “My sons got a firm handshake or the 50 Cent shoulder thing, or a full manly hug.

“I think it’s weird.”

He also criticised David for sharing the photo of his daughter in the first place. “They want their kids to be famous and then they complain about their privacy,” he said.

And that’s something his co-host Susanna Reid agreed with: “I just have an issue with posting it. If you post it then you’re up for the scrutiny.”

But not everyone saw anything wrong with the divisive image and following the programme there was a fresh wave of support for the dad-of-four on social media with many asking how anyone can see anything wrong with a dad giving his daughter a kiss.

David clearly sees nothing wrong with kissing his young daughter on the lips, and has previously posted pictures of himself doing so.

“I kiss all my kids on the lips,” David has previously commented. “Brooklyn maybe not. Brooklyn is 18, so he might find that a little strange, but I’m very affectionate with the kids.

“It’s how I was brought up – and Victoria – and it’s how we are with our children.”

The former England captain continued: “We want to show our kids love and we protect them, look after them and support them.”

David’s wife Victoria Beckham had previously come under fire from the parent police for sharing an image of her also kissing Harper on the lips.

The Beckhams aren’t the only celebrities who have caused a stir after showing affection to their kids.

Hilary Duff was also forced to defend herself after sharing an image of her kissing her son, then four on the lips.

And last year Kourtney Kardashian received a backlash for posting a picture of her kissing her son Reign.

Kissing children on the lips remains a divisive issue, with some parents all for it and others warning of the dangers of passing on the herpes virus, which can be harmful to babies.
