The Singaporean actor shared he had planned to take a post-COVID trip with his dad, and had even gotten him a new passport before he died in November last year.

When our loved ones pass, we mourn the things that we should have, could have, or would have done with them.

This Father’s Day, local actor Pierre Png shared a post about the overseas trip he was supposed to have gone on with his late dad.

Not able to travel with him in person, the Crazy Rich Asian star brought a framed photo of his father to Israel, including it in the photos he took — an experience Png described as 'exceptionally tough'.

Png, 49, wrote on his Instagram post published on Sunday (18 June), “In life there are many ‘firsts’, most are filled with joy and happiness. This ‘first’ for me is an exceptionally tough one.

“We'd planned to take a trip together post-COVID, even got you a new passport, but it was not meant to be. In spirit you came with us to Israel Daddy. Happy Father's Day! You were and are the best!”

Fellow celebrities such as wife Andrea de Cruz, Desmond Tan, Ben Yeo, Foo Fang Rong commented on his post and offered their support.

Png’s father, Dominic Png, died on 7 November last year, and the actor took to Instagram that afternoon to break the news.

He wrote, “Thank you Daddy for teaching me the power of prayer. I look forward to the day that I get to see you again.”

The actor also shared a screenshot of a post from a Facebook group, comprising alumni from local girls’ school CHIJ St Joseph’s Convent (SJC). It was tribute to his late dad and how fondly he was remembered by the students.

The post read, “One of the most iconic people at SJC for many of us: He was a very warm and caring father figure we all grew so fond of. Uncle Dom, as we were all told to call him, was always kind and generous.

“He never scolded or was angry at us even when we were in our crazy teens. Or when we told silly jokes to him that probably didn't make much sense.”

Another local celebrity, Felicia Chin, also went on Instagram on Sunday to talk about her late father.

She confessed that she regretted not being by his side when he passed away and shared a dream she had the night before he died.
