After the sad news yesterday (May 23rd), Pierce Brosnan has paid tribute to Roger Moore calling the actor the “greatest Bond of his time.”

The pair, of course, both played the iconic character of British spy, James Bond. Tragically, Roger Moore, who was 89, passed away yesterday in Switzerland. The actor’s family confirmed the news on social media shortly after it was reported.

In a statemnet, they said, “It is with a heavy heart that we must announce our loving father, Sir Roger Moore, has passed away today. The love in which he was surrounded in his final days was so great it cannot be quantified in words alone.”

Now Pierce Brosnan, who also played the iconic role of James Bond, has shared a touching homage to the late actor.

In a statement released to People, Brosnan called Moore “the greatest Bond of his time.”

“He embraced the role with an easy charm and grace that let us all in on the game,”

the statement read. “He saved the world seven times and then went on to become an even greater man working to ‘save the children’ with UNICEF. He never forgot the audience and we shall never forget him. I am proud to have followed in your footsteps Sir Roger. My heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and children.”

The actor also shared some pictures of Moore, who took on the role of Bond in 1973’s Live and Let Die and ended his tenure with 1985’s A View to a Kill.

Pierce Brosnan, of course, played the role of Bond between 1995 and 2002, starring in movies such as Golden Eye and Tomorrow Never Dies.

According to Roger Moore’s family, a private funeral for the star will be held in Monaco “in accordance with our father’s wishes.” Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time.
