A new image of late Queen Elizabeth II's fell pony, Emma, has been released by Buckingham Palace.

Posting on the Royal Family Twitter, the close-up image was shared alongside a caption saying: "A new photograph of Queen Elizabeth's fell pony, Emma. For the past fifteen years, Queen Elizabeth regularly rode Emma for light exercise in the grounds around Windsor Castle."

The pony paid tribute to Her Majesty during the Ceremonial Procession in Windsor on Monday 19th September, watching as the late Queen's coffin made its way to the Castle. Emma will continue to be much-loved and cared for at the Royal Mews, Windsor, and will be regularly exercised by its dedicated team, the Palace has confirmed.

Emma, whose full name is Carltonlima Emma, was bought by the Queen as an eight-year-old pony and went on to have a short but successful competition career. She was named Cuddy Supreme Champion at the Devon County Show in June 2006, before retiring in December 2007 where she returned to the Royal Mews at Windsor.

The Queen was known for having a keen interest in horses, and was given her first pony, Peggy, by her grandfather King George V. Whether it was attending the annual Trooping of The Colour on horseback or riding in the grounds of Windsor Castle with Prince Phillip, riding horses was something that brought our late Monarch great joy.
