The 2020 presidential election is coming up sooner than you might think. Yes, really. And some political watchers are starting to think the Democrats need a different kind of candidate for their next time around, which is why a lot of people think Mark Zuckerberg might run for president when it comes down to it.

If you think about, it’s not totally crazy. After the 2016 election in November, a lot of political pundits thought that maybe Oprah or George Clooney should run, since the Republicans were able to win with a celebrity this year. Zuckerberg has the dough to finance a campaign, a gorgeous family that Americans can relate to, and has expressed an interest in social good and philanthropy.

Oh, and he’s been making campaign stops.

Well, not really. But it sure seems like it, right?

For the record, there has been no confirmation whatsoever from Zuckerberg’s people that the Facebook founder has any interest in the Oval Office, but he does appear to be on some sort of mission.

Recently, he visited Michigan to tour a Ford Factory, and met some Muslim students at the University of Michigan-Dearborn.

He also toured South Bend, Indiana and met the mayor and shook hands with residents. In addition to that, he had dinner with an Ohio family on Friday — a family of Democrats who voted for Trump. Sounds like a campaign, right?

Just got into Ohio. Thanks to Dan and Lisa Moore for welcoming me into your home for a wonderful dinner!

It is, in a way, but not a political one. Zuckerberg has pledged to himself to meet as many people as possible in 2017, and to visit every state in America. It’s possible that, after the surprising results of the election and talking about Facebook’s role in spreading viral news (and a lot of fake news) and enabling political “conversation” among friends in the comment sections, Zuckerberg just wants to see what’s really going on with people. Or people who aren’t billionaires like him, at least.

“After a tumultuous last year, my hope for this challenge is to get out and talk to more people about how they’re living, working and thinking about the future,” he wrote on Facebook.

“Going into this challenge, it seems we are at a turning point in history. For decades, technology and globalization have made us more productive and connected. This has created many benefits, but for a lot of people it has also made life more challenging. This has contributed to a greater sense of division than I have felt in my lifetime. We need to find a way to change the game so it works for everyone.”

All of his ~adventures~ have stirred up conversation on social media about his chances at the White House — and the likelihood that he might run for office.

Others don’t quite agree.

But either way, we don’t expect to see him kissing babies and making speeches anytime soon. Who knows, though — maybe after he’s seen the entire country, he could be convinced. It wouldn’t be any crazier than the 2016 election cycle, that’s for sure.
