Penny Tai to release new version of "Ni Yao De Ai"

19 Apr - It was revealed that Malaysian-born singer-songwriter Penny Tai is releasing a new version of her famous song, "The Love You Want" ("Ni Yao de Ai") for the upcoming remake of the hit idol drama, "Meteor Garden".

As reported on Epoch Times, the singer who previously recorded the song as the closing theme for the 2001 Taiwanese version of the hit manga, "Hana Yori Dango", said that she was really excited when she heard about the remake, and kept thinking about how the soundtrack would be presented and who would be working on it.

She later received an invitation from the producer Angie Chai to discuss about the copyright of the song.

Penny said that they deliberated on whether or not they should use the original song, while at the same time present something fresh for the new drama. After several discussions, the singer agreed that there should be a new version of the song to complement the remake.

Although it would be difficult to surpass the popularity of the original version, Penny stated that she still took the challenge to revamp the song.

"Yes, it would be challenging. I was 22-years-old at the time [the original song was released]. I am [nearing] 40 now. We also have digital recording now. Be it voice recording or music engineering, they have all changed a lot. But I really want to retain the original feeling, so this would be the biggest challenge for the studio," she said.

For now, the song is still in the arrangement stage and the singer said that she hopes to produce a song that would satisfy fans.
