Penang Hawkers’ Fare is finally back at York Hotel
You can experience the smells and tastes of Penang hawker food without purchasing an air ticket, right here in Singapore, at York Hotel‘s White Rose Cafe. Their ever-popular Penang Hawkers’ Fare is back and will be available from 3 June to 19 June 2022.
Do any of you miss Penang? I do! The colourful streets of George Town with its numerous cafes, British colonial buildings and various artsy street murals painted on the building walls— make Penang so unique. Besides that, the food there is just out of this world! I can close my eyes and envision myself back at Kimberly Street slurping a bowl of yummy duck kway chap and enjoying a bowl of chendol.
Besides that, you can also expect to enjoy an array of various Penang specialties. Here are just some of the choices available.
Oyster omelette— Also known as ‘oh chien‘. Plump, juicy oysters resting atop a bed of crispy yet sticky egg batter fried to perfection. Accompanied by a spicy sour chilli sauce.
Char Kway Teow— Flat rice noodles stir-fried over high heat with bean sprouts, prawns, cockles, and eggs. No dark sweet sauce used like the Singapore version.
Assam laksa— A dish of round rice noodles in a spicy fish-based broth flavoured with tamarind. Garnishes include mint leaves, slices of pineapple, cucumber and onions; ginger flower, shrimp paste.
Ban Chang Kueh— A thick, traditional Hokkien pancake, filled with crushed peanuts, sugar and margarine.
These dishes and more are available as both a la carte buffet lunch, and dinner. Head over to White Rose Cafe for a feast and stand a chance to win a room stay or dining voucher from the lucky draw!
