"Parasite" makes history with Best Picture win at Oscars 2020

10 Feb – The 92nd Academy Awards, or more widely known as the Oscars, has wrapped up with South Korea's "Parasite" making history with its wins.
The Bong Joon Ho-directed movie took home four wins in total, which are the coveted Best Picture and Best International Feature Film, as well as Best Directing Best and Original Screenplay for Bong, the latter which he shares with co-writer Han Jin Won.
This is the first time that a movie won both Best Picture and Best International Feature Film (previously known as Best Foreign Language Film). The previous five double nominees, 1969's "Z", 1998's "Life Is Beautiful", 2000's "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon", 2012's "Amour" and 2018's "Roma", only won in the Foreign film category but lost to other titles for the top Academy Award.
Prior to its groundbreaking wins, the movie was already making history when it received its Oscars nominations, as it was only the 11th foreign language movie to be nominated for Best Picture and the sixth movie to be simultaneously nominated for both Best Picture and Best International Feature Film.
"Parasite" was also the first South Korean title to receive any Oscar nomination.
Its four wins, out of six nominations, also makes "Parasite" the biggest winner of this year's Oscars. It is the third foreign language film to win four Oscars, after "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" and 1984's "Fanny and Alexander".

Movies that had 10 nominations or more, namely "Joker", "1917", "The Irishman" and "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood", took home less accolades than expected.
"Joker" only won two out of its 11 nominations, including Best Actor for Joaquin Phoenix; "The Irishman" won none; "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" won only two out of 10, including Best Supporting Actor for Brad Pitt; and "1917" took home three wins out of its 10 nominations.
