Jimmy Kimmel will return to host the Oscars in 2023, making it his third time fronting the biggest event in show business.

The late-night TV presenter last fronted the show in 2018, a year after his debut in 2017.

Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirshner, the executive producers and showrunners behind the Academy Awards announced the news on Monday, November 7.

Kimmel, who presents and executive produces Jimmy Kimmel Live! on ABC has said in a statement: 'Being invited to host the Oscars for a third time is either a great honour or a trap. Either way, I am grateful to the Academy for asking me so quickly after everyone good said no.'

Weiss and Kirshner said in a joint statement about the 95th Academy Awards: 'We’re super thrilled to have Jimmy score his hat trick on this global stage.

'We know he will be funny and ready for anything.'

Academy CEO Bill Kramer and Academy president Janet Yang added: 'Jimmy is the perfect host to help us recognise the incredible artists and films of our 95th Oscars.

'His love of movies, live TV expertise, and ability to connect with our global audiences will create an unforgettable experience for our millions of viewers worldwide.'

The news comes after Kimmel recently extended his deal to continue at ABC with the 23rd season of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, which was previously due to expire in the next year.

Craig Erwich, president of ABC Entertainment, Hulu & Disney Branded Television Streaming Originals, said: 'Having Jimmy Kimmel return to host The Oscars is a dream come true. As we see every night on his own show, Jimmy can handle anything with both heart and humour, and we know that he will deliver the laughs and celebratory moments that define the Oscars.'

Kimmel hosted the 2020 Primetime Emmys, which was held at the Staples Center in Downtown Los Angeles during the pandemic.

Meanwhile, actors Amy Schumer, Wanda Sykes and Regina Hall hosted the 2022 Oscars earlier this year.

The 95th Oscars will be held on Sunday, March 12, 2023, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, and will be screened live on ABC and in no less than 200 territories worldwide.

Voting for this year's films will take place between January 12-17, with nominations set to be announced on January 24.
