Original "Jurassic Park" star joins "Jurassic World 2"

No, it's not any of the guys in hats.

26 Apr – It's official, famed fictional mathematician, Dr. Ian Malcolm, is returning to the world of dinosaurs.

THR reported that despite having miraculously survived, not one, but two trips to islands inhabited by genetically modified dinosaurs, Jeff Goldblum's character has been confirmed to return for the yet-to-be-officially-titled sequel of the highly successful 2015 movie, "Jurassic World".

Frank Marshall, the film's producer, even confirmed it himself in an interview with /Film. "I'm excited to have him back. The world has changed a lot since Ian Malcolm went to Jurassic Park and we need his point of view now more than ever. He told us about chaos theory, he was right."

Even since Universal announced a rebooted sequel to the much beloved "Jurassic Park" trilogy, fans have been wondering if the characters from the original films would make an appearance.

Now, it seems like that hope is more than just a pipedream and everyone is psyched to see Goldblum's character return, much like what was done in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" in which the newer characters shared screen time with the old ones.

Dinosaurs failed to kill me twice. Let's see them try a third time.

But since the sequel's plot has been painstakingly kept under wraps, we're still not sure what role Ian Malcolm will play in the plot. Though, it would be something else to see Malcolm interact with Owen and Claire. (Please?)

"Jurassic World" made box office history when it made over USD1.6 billion worldwide, thus making it the fourth highest-grossing film ever and having the second highest-grossing foreign opening weekends.

The sequel is being directed by J.A. Bayona, while the director of the prequel, Colin Trevorrow, is co-writing the script with Derek Connolly. Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard are reprising their roles and will be joined by Justice Smith, James Cromwell and Toby Jones.

Not much is known about the film, but it has been said that it would deal with animal cruelty and exploitation. "Jurassic World" the sequel has been set for a summer release in the US, on 22 June 2018.

Meanwhile, you can catch Jeff Goldblum and "Jurassic World" star Chris Pratt in the MCU, the former in "Thor: Ragnarok", releasing 2 November 2017, and the latter in "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2", opening this 27 April.
