If you haven't yet heard of Ambika Mod, you'll likely be far more familiar with her upcoming role. The starlet is set to play protagonist Emma Morley in Netflix's series adaptation of David Nicholl's infamous novel, One Day.

The future is looking bright for Ambika, as on-screen adaptations have become big business. If the adoration of Sally Rooney's romantic coming-of-age story Normal People is anything to go by - which saw Paul Mescal and Daisy Edgar Jones become household names overnight - Ambika could also be catapulted to stardom.

Ambika had her TV breakthrough exactly two years ago when she starred alongside Ben Whishaw in the BBC adaptation of Adam Kay's bestselling memoir, This is Going to Hurt, which follows his experiences as a junior doctor in the NHS. Last year, she also appeared on screens in the second series of Billie Piper's I Hate Suzie.

Now, all eyes are on the stand-up-comedian turned actress, as the hotly anticipated One Day reaches our screens.

Ambika was seen attending a dinner party for jewellery brand Mejuri last night.

Wearing a chic white maxi dress with capped sleeves and gathered fabric to create ruching, Ambika looked the picture of sophistication and serenity. To create a similar look, opt for the Satin Crepe Woven Maxi Dress from Karen Millen.

In a recent interview with The Guardian, Ambika opened up about her image and what it means.

"My image represents so many people who haven’t seen themselves on TV," she said.

"If I can be that to a young south Asian girl, even if she doesn’t want to be an actor, but she sees One Day, and thinks: ‘I’m worthy of love, I’m worthy of achieving my dreams,’ what an amazing thing to give someone."

As for her exciting new role in One Day - which is based on one of her favourite books - Ambika told The Guardian that she originally turned down the chance to audition, explaining that This Is Going to Hurt had just come out and she was feeling overwhelmed.

Thankfully for us, Ambika had a change of heart and after a lengthy auditioning process, she was given the role of protagonist, Emma.

"This was by far the best opportunity [following This Is Going to Hurt] and I just love the character and the book," she said. "I feel I’ve manifested my 13-year-old dream, so it felt quite magical."

We can't wait to see what the future holds for this bright star.

One Day premieres on 8 February on Netflix.
