Olivia Colman's Wonka character has been confirmedWarner Bros.

Wonka has an all-star cast that, among other names, features British acting royalty such as Olivia Colman, Sally Hawkins and Hugh Grant.

We knew that Grant was playing an Oompa Loompa, but we also now know that Colman will be playing against type too as one of the villains of the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory prequel movie.

Talking at a trailer preview event which Digital Spy attended, writer/director Paul King confirmed Colman's role as part of a villainous duo with Tom Davis called Scrubit and Bleacher who run "an evil washer house empire".

"I think you can tell from the trailer she's not the romantic lead, she's one of the villains. She's a great villain, she's terrific," King praised.

They're far from the only villains that Timothée Chalamet's Willy Wonka will have to contend with as he attempts to realise his chocolate dreams.

Paterson Joseph, Mathew Baynton and Matt Lucas are playing "rival chocolatiers" Arthur Slugworth, Mr Fickelgruber and Mr Prodnose. Those names will be familiar to fans of Roald Dahl's original book as they sent in spies to steal Wonka's recipes.

King didn't confirm the character that Sally Hawkins would be playing in the movie, but the trailer appears to reveal that she's Wonka's mother. And of course she has an inspirational speech to give him.

"Every good thing in this world started with a dream, so you hold on to yours," we hear her say in the trailer, pretty much guaranteeing that we will cry.

At the same event, King also explained why he cast Hugh Grant as an Oompa Loompa, joking that it was because he's the "most sarcastic shit" he knows.

Wonka is released in cinemas on December 15.
