Hear that? It’s the sweet sound of Swifties everywhere legit crying because Ms. Taylor Swift is at the 2022 VMAs wearing *the* most iconic, glitzy, naked-y (?!?!) dress, all the while being nominated for multiple awards including Video of the Year for “All Too Well.”

Initially, people thought that the singer wouldn’t actually show because she’d be too busy working on her new era. At least judging from unverified fan speculation on Twitter, which claimed she was spotted filming a music video in late July.

It was also thought that Tay may have been keeping a low profile thanks to some slight drama lately. On top of being criticized for her CO2 emissions earlier this summer (and then being spotted hiding under the world’s most massive umbrella while leaving a private plane), she’s dealing with a copyright lawsuit from 3LW over their 2001 song “Playas Gon’ Play,” which they allege influenced Taylor in writing “Shake It Off.”

In response, Taylor said she’d “never heard the song” “Playas Gon’ Play” and “had never heard of that song or the group 3LW,” also noting, “I have never seen a ‘Playas Gon’ Play’ music video, never attended any concert where 3LW performed, and never attended any concert where the song ‘Playas Gon’ Play’ was performed. I do not own any 3LW albums or singles or any recording of ‘Playas Gon’ Play.’ I do not own and have never listened to the albums Now That’s What I Call Music! 6 or Now That’s What I Call Music! 7. I did not discuss ‘Playas Gon’ Play’ or 3LW with anyone prior to this lawsuit. I have never subscribed to Billboard magazine and had never read anything in the magazine until after I moved to Nashville and became immersed in the music business.”

Awk times, but in better news (and circling back to music videos real quick), Taylor’s video for “All Too Well” is officially eligible for the best live-action short Oscar, which means she could be about to earn the O in EGOT. What! A! Whirlwind!
