North Carolina's 'Wizard of Oz' Theme Park Is Reopening for a Few Days This Summer — Here's How to Visit

Your chance to see the merry ol’ land of Oz is officially happening this June.

According to ABC 11, the infamous Land of Oz, a "Wizard of Oz" theme park in North Carolina, is opening its gates once more this summer.

The famous theme park on Beech Mountain was originally built in 1970, but unfortunately fell on hard times and closed about 10 years later. Since then, it was mainly a popular site for urban explorers seeking out spooky, abandoned sites. In the early ’90s, the park opened for a day or two at a time for special tours, including the popular “Autumn at Oz” festival, usually set for weekends in September.

In 2018, the park reopened for six days in June for "Wizard of Oz" fans to come to take a tour, and this year, it's back again.

This summer, guests can take a summer “Journey with Dorothy” tour on Thursdays and Fridays in June, as well as Wednesday, June 26 and Friday, July 5, according to the park’s website. As part of the 45-minute tour, guests are led by Dorothy Gale herself down the yellow brick road through the Land of Oz, and some guest may even be randomly selected to play one of the film’s beloved characters.

Tickets for the tour cost $27.50 per person. The 26th annual Autumn at Oz festival will be held on weekends in September 2019, according to WSOCTV. Tickets cost $45 for this event and will go on sale in May.

Since this year is the 80th anniversary of the classic film, the park is surely planning some special surprises for all guests to enjoy.
