Thinking about retirement? Well, first off, congratulations, and lucky you. You've earned your golden years and now plan to live them out in glorious fashion. But where, exactly, should you live them out? While we here at Travel + Leisure have written a great deal about all the fantastic places you can call home in retirement, a new study is showcasing some very specific spots in Spain that you should call home now that you're ready to live the next chapter.

In June, Moving to Spain released its list of the best towns and cities in the nation where people should retire. It created a list of 44 destinations that are often cited when discussing retiring in Spain. It then analyzed each spot based on seven factors that it believes are the most important to expat retirees, including "the proportion of retirees and retired expats, rent price index scores, crime rates, wealth tax rates, most popular destinations for retiree healthcare quotes, and average annual temperatures in each destination."

After looking at this data, it named Almuñécar the top destination for retirement in Spain.

"Almuñécar, on the southwest coast, takes the top spot and is our best place to retire in Spain," its findings stated. "The town scores highly thanks to its low rent price index of 108.34 percent and its 0 percent wealth tax rates. It also ranks highly for its proportion of retired expats — at 4.47 percent, it's just inside the top ten for the factor."

Beyond the economic benefits, Almuñécar also boasts some extremely attractive views, both along its stunning coastline that comes with soft sand beaches and craggy cliffs and through its historic sites, including the Castle of San Miguel.

Joining Almuñécar high on the list is Nerja in second place, a destination along the Mediterranean coast that also comes with a zero percent wealth tax rate, a high number of fellow retirees, and a high number (10.85 percent) of other retired expats.

Torrevieja, a spot on the southeast coast, came in third, followed by Jávea, Calpe, Benidorm, Denia, Cádiz, Cartagena, and Las Palmas, rounding out the top 10.

"Over 8 million foreign-born people live in Spain, with many relocating to the country to enjoy their retirement," Alison Johnson, a relocation expert and owner of Moving to Spain, shared in the results. "Mainland Spain and its associated islands, such as the Balearics and Canaries, are home to some of the most beautiful destinations in the world, offering a relaxed way of life, outstanding healthcare, a low cost of living, and a warm climate. This makes it easy to understand why so many people want to relocate to this much-loved country."
