Nintendo Switch OLED is officially landing on 8 October 2021 across major retailers. Buoyed by the runaway success of the OG Nintendo Switch, which has sold over 78 million consoles worldwide since 3 March 2017, the newest OLED version provides a slightly more refined experience for those familiar with the console.

However, Nintendo Switch OLED does not seem to serve as a replacement for the existing Switch and Switch Lite, as there are currently no plans to discontinue any model.

Here are some key pointers about the newest Nintendo Switch OLED.

Controller

The standard Joy-Con controllers work with it as with the previous model. This time around, the OLED version comes with two swanky white controllers instead of the signature blue and red.

Display

Nintendo Switch OLED is offering a 7-inch OLED screen, upgraded from the 6.2-inch LED of the Nintendo Switch and the 5.5-inch LED screen of the Nintendo Switch Lite.

Dock

The most major change to the dock is the addition of a wired LAN port, making it possible for one to set up a hard-wired internet connection on your Switch dock.

However, there's hardly any change to the size of the dock as the massive bezel of the original Switch has been reduced to make way for the larger OLED display.

Storage

It has a welcome upgrade of double the onboard storage at 64GB, up 32GB compared to the original Switch. That means more games!

Adjustable Kickstand

The original Switch had a meh plastic kickstand that folded out, and supports the Switch on a table as you play. The problem? The kickstand was poorly constructed and prone to breakage. The new OLED Switch's kickstand is much wider and more stable, and best of all, it can be adjusted to multiple angles.

Audio

Nintendo stated "enhanced audio from the system’s onboard speakers in Tabletop and Handheld modes", but there is no specific data sheet available on the upgrade as of today.
