Ning Baizura receives backlash over asking "Who is Rafah?"

16 May - Ning Baizura has found herself receiving backlash from netizens after expressing ignorance regarding the situation in the Gaza city of Rafah, of which population has been experiencing bombings and ground attacks by Israel.

The situation sparked after the singer, who did an Instagram live session recently, read some comments that said, "All eyes on Rafah" and decided to ask, "Who is that?"

She then laughed and expressed, "Oh my God, I'm sorry" before changing the topic.

After a clip of her response went viral, many flooded her Instagram account to express disappointment in the singer. Some commented that even local celebrities who are non-Muslims were more attuned to the situation in Gaza.

One wrote, "Seven months of Palestinians being attacked and you're asking who is Rafah?"

Another fan wrote, "I really love you, Ning. But your latest viral comment was so upsetting and insensitive. Goodbye, Ning. May Allah bless you."

Many have also called for the singer to be blocked as part of the Blockout 2024 campaign against celebrities who have not been speaking out against the crisis or are promoting brands that have been boycotted for their involvement with the state of Israel.

Ning has not made any response regarding the issue for the time being.
