The sneaker world has been full of amazing design inspirations lately. Lately, there's been this excellent Lisa Frank and Reebok collaboration. Now, Nike's joined the fray with a RED VELVET-inspired sneaker design, and it's a beauty:

So what inspired Nike to get in on one of the world's most popular dessert flavors? Believe it or not, this was inspired by... Golden State Warriors player Kevin Durant. After Durant left the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2016 to sign with the Warriors, his former teammates called him a "cupcake."

And now Durant's reclaimed the insult with a signature Nike show, the Red Velvet. To add to the "Oooo" factor of it all, the sneaker's official description reads:

"With a style of play as smooth as velvet, KD is known for having the most fluid game in the game today. Effortlessly making defenders look helpless, always ready to cook his next victim. He dominates the game with unrivaled versatility, forever motivated by the sweet taste of victory. At the end of the day, winning is all that matters and anything else is just icing on the cake. The KDX 'Red Velvet' celebrates the smoothest player in the game and his undying quest for the sweet taste of victory."

This NBA star turned his ex-teammates' burn into a NBD Nike collab, and now you can join in on his "just desserts" comeback for... a cool $150, with sales starting at 10 a.m. EST on August 1. (All that said, beyond the basketball beef, those are some seriously sweet shoes.)
