Nicol David biopic to be produced by ACE Pictures

8 Jun – A movie about legendary squash player Nicol David is currently in the works.

The news was shared by Peter Wong, the President of ACE Pictures, who stated that the studio has already secured exclusive rights to a biopic about Nicol, which hopefully will not only inspire Malaysians, but the world at large.

"Hearing Nicol speak about her life story gave us a completely different view into the sacrifices that had to be done in order to achieve her remarkable level of success. While we believe many are willing to go beyond the ordinary for their careers as a pro athlete, the love and dedication Nicol has for the sport exceeds normal understanding," said Wong. "This is why her biopic will not be about an underdog's rise to success - she was and always has been an established icon - but about a woman's will and dedication so profound, it becomes life itself, and the complex struggles one has to face when confronted with the reality of having to let go of something so deeply apart of herself."

Nicol David has 8 world titles and a record of 108 consecutive months as title holder of World No.1

For now, ACE Pictures is keeping mum on the details of the project, though stated that the biopic will be produced in English. A Hollywood actress will also be cast as David's coach, Australian Liz Irving. They will also be casting nationwide for the role of the squash sensation herself.

Aside from making a biopic about a female sports star, the company is amping up their female empowerment campaign by hiring two female screenwriters - one local and one international - to pen the script.

Wong added that the company is planning to not only cater to local audiences, but to also market the movie in the US and Europe.
