Nick Cheung wants to establish himself as a filmmaker

5 May – Hong Kong actor-director Nick Cheung recently revealed that his new movie "The Trough" can basically be described as "thoroughly the work of Nick Cheung", as he closely worked on the project since day one.

As reported on Epoch Times, the actor who sat down for an interview about the new movie recently, shared that he has given a little piece of him in each and every character in the new movie.

"Every good person, every bad one, all of them are extracted from my own life experience. Therefore, I dare say that "The Trough" is the work of Nick Cheung," he said.

Nick, who also wrote the script for the movie, added, "I spent nine months writing the script and developing the characters. I know best what the characters' motivations are, and which emotion suits what scene," he said.

When asked if he is influenced by the style of any existing filmmaker, Nick said that his vision for the movie is all his own, but admitted modestly that other directors have inspired him to some extent.

"For example, their rhythm, techniques, perception - they all influenced me in some way," he said.

As to whether he will continue to direct his own movies in the future, Nick, who previously helmed "Hungry Ghost Ritual" and "Keeper of Darkness", said that it is his goal to one day become a fully-fledged filmmaker.
