Nicholas Tse criticised for simple congratulatory post to dad

20 Jul - Nicholas Tse found himself being the subject of criticism of many netizens, after what they deemed to be a lacklustre response to his father winning Best Actor at the Hong Kong Film Awards.

On 17 July, the actor took to Facebook and shared a photo of his father taken from the Hong Kong Film Awards website following news of the veteran star's victory, and wrote a short, "Congratulations, dad", adding to that a smiling face with sunglasses emoji.

Netizens who saw the post took to the comments section, criticising Nicholas for the short message, and instead praised Gordon Lam for being a more "filial son".

One wrote, "His own son is not as good as Gordon Lam". Another posted, "Foreigners might think that he is an actor with no children".

"Did you thank Gordon for taking care of your father?" asked one netizen.

At the same time, others defended Nicholas, saying that people should stop meddling in celebrities' family affairs.

It is noted that Gordon, who is also the producer of Patrick's movie, "Time" of which he won the trophy for, was seen helping the elderly actor to the stage upon the announcement and accompanied him during his speech, despite he himself losing the said accolade to Patrick.

Following the post, Nicholas responded to the media saying that he is absolutely happy for Patrick.

"Two years ago, he won the Lifetime Achievement Award, and now he won Best Actor. I think he is very happy," he expressed.
