New in town: White Shades – Unique 4-storey concept offers the ultimate cocktail experience
Looking to enjoy cocktails in an entirely new way? White Shades has opened along Boon Tat Street at just the right time for you. Their first-of-its-kind concept has been meticulously crafted to further your appreciation of spirits, from boozy gelatos to bespoke craft concoctions and draft cocktails and beer.
The 4-storey shophouse it occupies has been transformed into an innovative cocktail playground, a methodical mix of concepts that bring your other senses into the fold. Thought up by JiaWei Bai, co-founder of Stay Gold Flamingo (#32 on Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2023), there’s nary a chance that your expectations won’t be surpassed at White Shades.
Their first floor is all about Desserts, and sports a vibrant interior with hanging art installations and brightly coloured seating. The welcoming vibes will compel you to indulge in their dizzying menu of 12 ice creams – 4 alcoholic flavours, 4 classics and 2 sorbets, with the remaining 2 being seasonal and experimental. You can look forward to trying new flavours on repeat visits.
Low-ABV tea cocktails are offered here as well, gently easing you into the cocktail journey. If you’re not too keen on alcoholic ice desserts or drinks, they offer cold-brewed tea and coffee, too.

On the second level is Cocktail, where their bespoke cocktail menu concept unRAW is served. The warm lighting and darker tones really bolster its genteel atmosphere.
Their Savi Galloping is a mix of Codigo Blanco tequila, paprika, lime, fire water and smoked chips, providing a zesty kick to perk up your taste buds. I definitely wouldn’t mind this after some ice cream.
Bomber J. is in reference to the jackets worn by the White Shades team. It features an exquisite blend of Suntory World Whisky AO, toasted rice syrup and Hinoki bitters, symbolising the team’s readiness to ‘rock n roll’.
If you’re looking to eat your fill, Chef Hosni has got you covered. Previously from Employees Only (World’s 50 Best Bars 2019), his lineup of contemporary fusion dishes sounds positively divine. Beef Tartare topped with a runny quail yolk and fiery sambal matah and Tagliatelle tossed with spiced bebek ragu – those imaginative combinations that have me salivating. Most appealing is perhaps their beef cheek Rendang Grilled Cheese.
Ascending to the third floor, you’ll find the Event universe, a blank canvas with ceiling lights that transform into any colour for use as an event space. It’s a highly customisable environment that accommodates 35 pax.
The Rooftop is perhaps where it’s liveliest, featuring live music and games that liven up the atmosphere. Get their draft beer and cocktails, priced under S$20, and mingle with the eclectic crowd as you look back on your culinary journey so far.
There’s not much more one could demand from White Shades’ sophisticated cocktail experience. If you’re an alcohol aficionado, what’s stopping you from trying it yourself?
