Jiang Wen joins "Rogue One"?

11 Aug - Following Donnie Yen, it was reported that mainland actor Jiang Wen has also been cast in an upcoming "Star Wars" film.

According to CRI News, Jiang reportedly will star in the upcoming spinoff, "Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One".

The news came a month after it was previously rumoured that "Rogue One" had been pursuing Chinese talent.

"Godzilla" director, Gareth Edwards, will be directing the film while Felicity Jones and Diego Luna are set to co-star.

The film is currently under production and is slated for a 2016 year-end release. Jiang, who is also a screenwriter and director in mainland China, is known for movies such as "Warriors of Heaven and Earth", "Let the Bullets Fly", and "Gone with the Bullets".

Hollywood has been actively casting Chinese actors for the past few years, including Tang Wei and Wang Leehom ("Blackhat"), Fan Bingbing ("X-Men: Days of Future Past"), Li Bingbing ("Transformers: Age of Extinction"), Angelababy ("Independence Day: Resurgence"), and Zhang Jingchu ("Mission Impossible - Rogue Nation"), though the question whether these castings are significant to the plot or just there as a bait for Chinese audiences is still debatable.
