Haters slam GEM Tang's upcoming documentary film

3 Jun - Critics of GEM Tang recently blasted the Hong Kong pop star for an upcoming documentary film about her musical journey that will be produced in China.

As reported on Mingpao News, recently, China’s State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television (SAPPRFT) released the list of upcoming screenplay and projects.

One of them, a movie called “Deng Ziqi Cheng Zhang Ji” (loosely translated as “GEM Tang’s Record of Growth”), sparked a heated debate from Netizens. Many stated that as a 23-year-old singer going on 24, GEM is not qualified to have her own autobiographical film.

They also accused the singer of being self-important for having her own film.

However, the singer’s mainland fans have come to her aid, saying that the movie will help fans to know more about GEM’s history and career in Hong Kong before her big break through in “I Am A Singer 2”.

According to the summary, the film will chronicle GEM’s journey from her debut to the present, and feature some anecdotes from her childhood, as well as several perspectives taken from her private life.

When asked about the film, her manager stated that they have been preparing for the documentary some time ago.

As to whether the documentary will address GEM’s controversies including her relationship with Yoga Lin and allegations of diva behaviour, the company stated that the specific content of the film will be announced later.
