'The Hateful Eight': Jennifer Jason Leigh as first female cast member

As speculation continues surrounding Quentin Tarantino's casting choices for upcoming western "The Hateful Eight," Jennifer Jason Leigh is named as the female lead in an all-star cast.

An April 2014 live read of the script had seen the likes of Bruce Dern, Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Madsen, Tim Roth and Kurt Russell joined by Amber Tamblyn ("House M.D."), James Parks ("Kill Bill") and Walton Goggins (" Django Unchained").

But it's the award-winning actress from "Margot at the Wedding" and "The Machinist" who has become Tarantino's first female hire. Hers is the part of female lead Daisy Domergue, who is wanted for murder in late 1800s Wyoming and caught by one of two bounty hunters central to the story. That's the role that was read by Tamblyn back in April.

Jackson, Russell, Roth, Madsen, Goggins, Parks and Dern were again namechecked by The Wrap, alongside Denis Menochet ("Inglourious Basterds") James Remar, Dana Gourrier (both "Django Unchained") and Zoe Bell ("Death Proof").

"The Hateful Eight" is expected to release late 2015.
