Newly revamped VivoCity Food Republic features 30 stalls selling traditional local delights to $1.99 oysters

VivoCity has always been known for being a maze that covers foods of all kinds. Covering over 27,000 square feet, VivoCity‘s Food Republic is a food atrium that aims to create a space that connects nostalgia and life through food.

From beef noodles to rojak, to express teppanyaki stalls and Thai food, or even Indonesian BBQ, nasi padang and durian speciality stalls, their newly revamped picks have included 30 stalls and mini restaurants hand-picked to offer a wide array of traditional tastes.

The interior includes glimpses of life in the 1900s, with their wooden floor tiles and props like Chinese sedans and old Chinese lanterns and kites hung on ceilings.

It is astounding to witness the variety of local and international cuisines, catering to everyone from all over the world. With many tourists filling the spaces of VivoCity’s Food Republic, it has become a food court that really caters to all kinds.

One of the new additions to VivoCity’s Food Republic that caught my attention was Oyster Co. It might be familiar to us because its flagship store is located at Clarke Quay. Now, they’ve expanded and brought over its wallet-friendly prices of all-day S$1.99 Oysters down to VivoCity.

Oyster Co. brings in the freshest oyster breeds from all over the world at affordable prices so that we can enjoy these luxurious delicacies conveniently. Grab a partner and order a dozen of them for a fresh blue seafood feast! They also have other fresh seafood options like the Battered Fish and Chips (S$8.90) made with their seasonal selections of fish.

Next, this might be a store that many might decide to look past. Mr Tong Hot Pot Snail Rice Noodles lays out a spread that looks like any other Chinese store, but take a look at their menu to see what they offer. Their name itself spells out unfamiliarity, and having snails is definitely something that is out of the ordinary!

For those who are adventurous, try their Hot Pot Snail Rice Noodles (S$6.80). Not only will your senses be challenged, this will leave your taste buds tingling. The Chinese-infused noodles would be served in a cup for you to enjoy. Think of the French delicacy, escargot, but with a Chinese take!

Bak kut teh stores in Singapore have always been serving the peppery versions of this comforting meal. So when I heard that Feng Xiang Bak Kut Teh had the herbal version, it was added to my must-visit list! Their rich broth is made out of a recipe authentic to Klang, Malaysia, and is brewed in-house for long hours. The regular Herbal Bak Kut Teh costs S$7.90, but they also have dry versions as well, which go for S$8.90.

Be sure to keep an eye out for more interesting stores at VivoCity’s Food Republic as the list is too long for me to get into. They’ve definitely included some exciting new stores that awaits!
