Netflix’s ‘Reptile’ Shreds the Streaming Competition for 3rd Consecutive Week | Charts

Week in and week out, there are two things that are almost always true of the top streaming programs chart: Netflix will have a strong showing, and at least one of those hits will be seemingly unexpected.

That’s the case with this week’s streaming chart on the Samba TV Weekly Wrap Report for the week of Oct. 9 to 15, where Netflix holds five of the top six spots, led by the continued and impressively sustained success of “Reptile.” The Benicio Del Toro-led detective thriller holds onto the top spot for the third consecutive week, remaining popular with viewers despite little praise from critics.

The Wrap Report provides an exclusive first look at the most-watched movies and TV series from the past week across both streaming and linear television sourced from viewership trends collected from Samba TV’s panel of more than 3 million households drawn from over 25 million connected TVs, balanced to the U.S. Census.

Even more impressive for “Reptile” was that it was watched in more households this week than Netflix’s new horror series, “The Fall of the House of Usher,” a release timed to coincide with America’s love of scary content during the Halloween season. “Usher” is second this week, with nearly 800,000 households diving into the first episode in the first four days it was available, according to Samba TV data. It was especially popular with Zoomers, as Gen Z households (ages 20-24) over-indexed by 9%.

Coming in third is “The Burial” from Amazon Prime Video. The based-on-a-true-story courtroom drama, starring Jamie Foxx and Tommy Lee Jones, was popular among Black households, with the demographic over-indexing by 66%.

Spots two through six belong to Netflix programs that carried over from last week’s chart. Reality dating show “Love is Blind” moves up from fifth to fourth, having aired its finale and reunion episodes this week. “Beckham,” a documentary series on the soccer star, gets a kick from seventh to fifth, and the thriller “Fair Play” moves from tenth to sixth.

Following that Netflix quartet is a Disney+ trio. Season two of the Marvel series “Loki” is seventh this week, followed by last week’s fourth-ranked streaming program, “Haunted Mansion.” The movie, based on the Disney theme park ride, is eighth this week. “Elemental” stays in ninth, continuing a run of five consecutive weeks on the chart.

We find yet another surprise in 10th place, as “The Equalizer 3” makes the chart for the second consecutive week. The Denzel Washington film is one of the rare programs to make the streaming chart via video-on-demand. That it has done so two weeks in a row is even more impressive.

Over on linear, the most notable entry this week is the return of “Saturday Night Live.” NBC’s weekly sketch comedy show kicked off its 49th season on Oct. 14, drawing 2.5 million households for live and same-day viewership and outpacing both the Season 48 and Season 47 premieres. It’s the eighth most-watched program over the course of the week.

At the top of the chart, there’s no silencing “The Voice” as NBC’s singing competition holds the top spot for the third consecutive week. It also comes in fifth and sixth this week.

ABC follows with a trio of dependable competitions: “The Golden Bachelor” is second, “Dancing With the Stars” is third, and “Bachelor in Paradise” is fourth.

Coming in seventh is “Yellowstone,” still in reruns on CBS. The latest episode of Season 45 of “Survivor” lands in ninth, and “Wheel of Fortune” is 10th this week.
